Steel Security Doors, Gates & Window Guards
Steel Masters fabricates the full range of security steel for New York City property - window guards, mesh and plate security doors, roll down gates, and welded cage partitions for storage and equipment rooms.
Every piece is measured on site and built to the opening in our Brooklyn shop, so nothing is forced into a frame it was not made for.
Securing a New York City building rarely comes down to one product - it takes the right steel for each type of opening. Steel Masters has fabricated window guards, security doors, roll down gates and cage partitions for NYC brownstones, apartment buildings, storefronts, schools and warehouses since 1972, all measured on site and built in our Brooklyn shop.
Why NYC Owners and Managers Choose Steel Masters
- Four product lines, one shop - window guards, security doors, roll down gate framing and cage partitions are all fabricated in the same Brooklyn shop.
- Measured on site first - every opening is field-measured before fabrication, so guards, doors and gates fit without gaps or filler pieces.
- Matched finish across a building - when several lines go on one property, primer, paint color and hardware are coordinated so the security steel reads as one system.
- Egress and fire code awareness - hinged and release-type window guards and door hardware are specified where an opening serves as required egress.
- Repair as well as new installs - we re-anchor guards, straighten gate guides and repair doors and cages installed by others, not only our own work.
- One crew for measure, fabrication and install - Steel Masters measures, welds and installs with our own crews - no subcontracted labor between shop and site.
- Serving all property types - brownstones, apartment buildings, storefronts, schools, warehouses and commercial buildings across the five boroughs.
Matching the Product to the Opening
Window guards fix into window, areaway and vent openings and stay closed except where egress hinges are needed. Security doors hang on welded frames and heavy hinges for openings that get locked and unlocked daily. Roll down gates close a full storefront or service entrance width, with the header and guide steel built to the opening. Cage partitions divide open interior floor space into individually secured units. Most buildings need a combination - guards on the windows, a door or gate at the entrance, and cages inside for storage or equipment. Where the perimeter itself needs to be closed off rather than a single opening, the work moves over to commercial steel bar and 8-foot fencing.
One Measure, One Shop, One Install
When a building needs several of these lines at once, we take all the opening measurements in a single site visit, fabricate everything in our Brooklyn shop, and install with the same crew across the visit - window guards, doors, gates and cages finished to match.
That coordination matters most on managed apartment buildings and commercial properties, where mismatched finishes or hardware between products stand out and where one point of contact for the whole security package is worth more than separate vendors for each line. The same shop handles the other locked openings on a building envelope, including sidewalk cellar and basement access doors and the expanded metal and steel mesh infill used across guards, doors and cage panels.
Repair and Existing Security Steel
Not every job starts from scratch. We re-anchor window guards that have worked loose from masonry, straighten and realign roll down gate guides, repair or replace security door hardware, and rebuild damaged cage panels, whether or not Steel Masters installed the original work. Send existing conditions or a spec through email drawings and we will quote the repair alongside any new security steel the building needs.
Every job is measured in the field and built to that opening - we fabricate in our own Brooklyn shop and install with our own crew, the same way we have since 1972.

Frequently Asked Questions
It depends on the opening. Windows get fixed guards, entry and utility doors get hinged security doors, full storefront widths get roll down gates, and open interior floor areas get cage partitions. Most buildings end up using two or more of these lines together.
